Hi

i have a few MD3000i controllers and would like to reset them back to a default setup using this guide:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Power on the MD3000i and press "CTRL B" when it starts to boot.

Type 10 and hit enter for "Serial Interface Mode Menu"

Type 1 and hit enter for "Console Only"

Type Q and hit enter to exit

Type R and hit enter to reboot.

Watch the boot sequence and when you see "sodMain complete", hit enter and type "sysWipeZero 1" and hit enter.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My problem is when booting i press CTRL+Break but the system wont let me press S in time it just keeps booting until its finished. i been in the menu and reset to defaults before so i know it can be done.

Any ideas why it wont let me in?

Thanks

Glen

R420 and MD1220

I used Open Management Server Administration on Server1 to configure the Raid6 on the MD1220. I have a second R420 (Server2) also with a Perc 810 connected to the MD1220. How do I get Server2 to see the array that Server1 created?

      Thanks.

Do I need Path-Failover for my tapelib?

$

Hi All,

We're planning to buy a TL2000/TL4000, but are a bit fustrated, if we need the highly priced "Path-Failover License" for the configuration.

Configuration:

- 1 Dell TL2000 or TL4000 with 1 LTO6 FC or LTO7 FC drive (half height)

- 2 Dell R730 servers (running bacula as backup sw), active-backup configuration

Possible connectivity:

Version "A": P2P links to the TL2000 from each R730

Version "B": 1 FC switch, both servers and TL2000 is connected to the FC swtich

I'm a bit new to the FC world, any thought appreciated.

Goal is to have a lightly redundandt configuration; to be able to use the tapelib from any of the R730 - but only from 1 at a time; active-passise cluster

Thanks in advance!

MD3420 Error when trying to set RAID Controller Module Gateway

From the Powervault Modular Disk Storage Manager, I go to Setup->Configure Ethernet Management Ports and select Module 0, Port 1 and/or Module 1, Port 1 and click "Change RAID Controller Module Gateway," then set the gateway address.  It comes back with:

Error 4 - The operation cannot complete because of an incorrect parameter in the command sent to the RAID controller module. Please retry the operation. If this message persists, contact your Technical Support Representative.

I have a second, identical MD3420 (with different management IPs, obviously) where the gateway was set with no trouble.

Question regarding hardware configuration for md3060e arrays

Hi all.

I need help with the proper hardware configuration for using Dell's dense storage arrays.  Want to put together four md3060e  door to raise and couple that with a power edge server. I have heard multiple different configurations regarding the set up. I still haven't learned whether not I can do a hardware raid with so many discs. Can anyone shed light on what would be a good  configuration as we were primarily using this as a file server for large media files. (10-30gb). I don't want to get into a discussion about which raid configuration as I would like to have the hardware set up completed first. I also don't want to configure this as one continuous Drive put in multiple volumes across the 240 disks to avoid long rebuild times. Any help was greatly appreciate it with how to configure these arrays to daisychain with a PowerEdge server. I also wanted to know if these could be managed with other Dell servers on the same network using open manage. Thanks again for everyone's time

Error PV TL4000

$

Hi ,

I have a problem managing the library PV TL4000 through SW Symantec Backup 12.0 Rev. 1364.

The following features of the library Power Vault TL4000 tape:

 Drive: IBM ULT3580-HH5
 Tape: LTO5

I confirm that the old backup platform is not working properly (the library is handled correctly by the SW Symantec Backup 12.0 Rev 1364, but by performing data recovery attempts or writing the library does nothing - the only task is to inventory) .

Against this the library were made all possible tests and upgraded to the latest release the driver but the library has continued to be handled properly.
They have also been made tests with the help of colleagues that use this type of library on other clients but with negative results.:

Verifications were as follows:

- Backup Job on area DISC OK
- Backup Job on tape - KO
- Zoning and FC - OK cabling
- Presence drivers and mediabox in S.O. - OK
- Media presence "overwriteable" - Scratch - OK
- None of retention obstacle volumes - OK
- BE services (windows) launched regularly - OK

Ultimately, when a job commanded the tape remains in the status "pending / waiting" the dividing line is always the Tape Library (if there are no problems "retention that does not make the volumes usable; it is not our case).
Although there are no error messages on the display, it is a symptom of device not ready for the backup server. The inventory is performed because the barcode is read differently than the movement of the robot arm which follows a different logic.

MD3200i: 3 different part numbers for the same PSU?

Hello, I have to replace a faulty PSU on MD3200i.

I'm a bit confused since I've found 3 different part numbers of PSU that seems exactly the same:

NFCG1 (the faulty one),  GV5NH , 6N7YJ.

Are they the same PSU? Will they all work in MD3200i?

Thank you very much.

Dell disk drives P/N confusion

Hello,

I need 900 GB WD9001BKHG hard drives for my MD3220.
I looked at the Support Matrix pdf, and found that I needed disk drives with Dell P/N 4X1DR.

But my sellers have disk drives with completely different P/N's!
Their P/N's look like:

400-22929

400-22932

400-22934

400-22975

400-24104

400-24204

400-AEZD

Why the P/N's differ?
Which Part Number is right for me?

Replaced SAS5E card in 2950 need to update HBS in Modular Disc Storage Manager

$

Replaced a non-working SAS 5E card in a Dell 2950. Need to remove the old one (HBA) in the Modular Disc Storage Manager.

Not sure out of the two which card has been removed. I know the new one but need to remove the old one then replace with the new one and re-distribute the discs.

I need to identify the removed sas5e card.

Below is what I found for directions but it doesn't tell me which one is the removed one and the card is not removed in the software.

Note: The WWN are NOT written on the SAS controllers, are not displayed in the SAS BIOS and are not visible in OMSA either.

When a SAS 5E is replaced, the WWN are NOT updated automatically.

As a result, replacing a SAS 5E may result in no connectivity to the MD3000 (talking about disk access here). The reason for that is that the WWN presented to the MD3000 are not registered with the new card.

In order to restore the connectivity, open MDSM (since no mapping is involved, a simple SAS connection is enough ; the management port is good too).

Go to the Modify tab and select Edit Host Topology.

Follow those steps:

  • For the host where the HBA was replaced, delete the existing mapping for the old HBA:

  • Select the host

  • Select the HBA Host Port to be deleted

  • Click Remove

  • Repeat those steps for the second port if applicable

  • Add the new HBA ports

  • Click Add HBA…

  • Select the WWN from the dropdown menu (MDSM will only present un-configured ports; since all the other ports connected to the MD3000 should already be configured, only the WWNs from the new HBA should be displayed). It is expected to see two WWNs, one ending with ‘00’, the other ending with ‘04’.

  • Repeat the above steps for the second port is applicable

  • Check if the virtual disks are visible from the host again

How can I discover the content of a non-descript LTO3?

Hello,

I've been handed an LTO3 which has been written with content, but I have no idea how it was made. I've been given the task of finding out what is actually stored on the tape. I've tried the usual tar command but the errors suggest the tape wasn't written using tar. What would be the simplest way of me discovering what type of content is on the tape? I am quite new to all this so a step by step would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
